Charts allow you to study historical movements in a highly flexible enviroment. You can change the chart style, plot several securities at once for comparisons, add indicators and use different scales
You can load any period you like, set custom dates, choose different time intervals (from 1 minute to 1 quarter)
Plot several indicators at once, customize all their parameters, resize their views and fine tune your analysis with a crosshair cursor that gives you granularity on each data point
Just type the symbol and the char is loaded
When some indicators are plotted in their own separate views (MACD, RSI, OBV, etc) the chart window is divided into two panes. The upper part contains the price and volume chart (including the relative securities and those indicators that are plotted in this window (Moving Averages, Volatility. etc). The bottom part contains the indicators. The relative sizes of these two panes can be changed by dragging the empty space beween the two panes
Show Table/Show Chart
Toggles chart/table view
You can either display a chart or a table with all the data
Show/Hide Crosshair
Manage the crosshair
When the Crosshair is displayed, it shows the price level on the x axis for the date and the Databox (if displayed) will show all the pricing data for the security (OHLC+V), for the relative securities and for the indicators on the chart
Show/Hide Databox
The Box showing all pricing information
When the Crosshair is visible, the Databox will display all the pricing data for the security (OHLC+V), for the relative securities and for the indicators on the chart for each date on which the Crosshair is moved to
Reset Dates
Reset the Display Dates
This command resets the Display From and the Display To dates (redrawing the chart) to the first and last dates loaded in memory for the selected Date Range. It also resets the Slider
Show/Hide Slider
Manage the slider
The Slider at the bottom of the view allows to change the Display From and Display To dates (zooming in or out) and redraw the chart (automatically recalculating the correct scale for the new period). This command shows or hides the Slider at the bottom of the view.
Slider Static/Dynamic Redraw
Determine redraw on Slider move
Dynamic redraw on a Slider move redraws the chart for each single move. This provides immediate feedback on how the chart looks at each step. However, in charts with long Date Ranges or with many relative securities or indicators this consumes a lot of resources and can become slow. Static redraw only redraws the chart once the slider has stopped moving.
Show/Hide Menus
Display the Charts Menu
You can hide the Charts Menu to increase the plot area
Dates Ranges
Select Period to Load
Select a pre-defined date range from 1 day to 20 years or input your specific dates
Frequency
The frequency of the data to load
Chose the frequency for the data, from 1 minute to monthly. The choice in this field, combined with the Date Ranges could result in a vary large data set and slow down some calculations
Data Type
Split adjusted or raw data
Automatically adjusts the data for stock splits and displays either the raw data or the adjusted data for all fields (including volume)
Chart Type
Select which chart to plot
Chose your preference from a single line chart to a candlestick chart or a gradient (mountain) chart. This type only applies to the main data series. Relative securities and indicators are plotted as lines
Volume
Chose how to display volume data
You can plot the volume within the price chart (Overlay) or in its own separate chart (Display) or not plot it (Off)
Scale Type
Set which scale to use
Price scale uses the main security's price. Log10 plots the chart on a logarythmic scale and Percent plots the scale based on the performance of the main security from the first date displayed on the chart
Grids
Set gridlines
Gridlines can be a combination of horizontal and vertical or can be turned off completely
Legends
Select where to display scale legends
Legends for the main security price scale can be plotted either on the left or on the right or can be turned off for a larger plot area. Note that in case Volume is in its own separate window (Display) the legends for the volume scale are plotted on the side opposite to the price scale legends
Display From
Start date for the chart
You can change the starting date for the chart in order to zoom in on a particular date range. The start date cannot be earlier than the first date loaded by the Date Ranges parameter. This parameters interacts and modifies the values on the datesSlide at the bottom of the chart page. Similarly, adjusting the slider for a different start date will change the date in this box. To restore the starting date to the first available date after a change either delete the date in the box or choose Reset Dates in the Tools menu
Display To
End date for the chart
This parameter changes the last date to display in the chart and interacts with the silder as the Display From parameter
Relatives
Manage other securities in the chart
You can add, delete or show/hide more securities to this chart. The relative securities prices are automatically rebased to the main security first price in order to show their relative performance. You can decide to hide these or show them
Indicators
Manage technical indicators
You can add, delete or show/hide a number of technical indicators in the chart (moving averages, volatility, MACD, Bollinger Bands, etc.). Depending on the type of indicator, this is either plotted within the price chart or in its own window: moving averages, volatility and Bollinger Bands are plotted in the price chart while the others (MACD, RSI, OBV, etc) are plotted in their own window. Clicking on an indicator line in the price chartt will change the scale to display the indicators' values (for example, clicking on the volatily line will change the scale from price to volatility %). Clicking on the price or reltive line (or the moving averages lines) will change the scale back to the price scale.
When the Crosshair is visible, the Databox displays all the pricing information (OHLCV) for the main security, the last price for all the relative securities and the value for all the indicators plotted on the price chart.
You can display a smaller version of the databox by clicking on the arrow at the bottom right and this will only show the last price and percentage change for the main security
The indicators that are plotted in their own separate window will have their own separate Databox
